I am interested in host-pathogen interactions of zoonotic agents and their transmission through the food chain. Chicken is my
model organism, as chicken can serve as a reservoir for several foodbourne pathogens including Salmonella and Campylobacter
species. I use a combination of cell/molecular, genetic and genomic approaches on the pathogen, chicken, and human to help
discover the underlying mechanisms of such infectious diseases. Currently, I am using comparative genomic hybridization arrays to
identify regions along the chicken genome associated with disease by mapping copy number variants between several genetic
lines of chicken. The ultimate goal of my research is to reduce the spread of infection from our farms to our food supply.
